Ocean Angels set world record
Ten months after landing in Antigua Elin received a call from an ‘ Angel’. Team ‘Ocean Angels’ were a crew member down three months before they were due to set off from Geraldton, Australia across the Indian Ocean.
Elin couldn’t say no to such an amazing opportunity and joined forces with Sarah Duff, Fiona Waller and Jo Jackson to row ‘Pura Vida’ across the wide expanse of the Indian Ocean.
This time, Elin's old rugby coach at London Wasps RFC, Ollie Garrigue stepped in to be her sponsor.
For 78 days 15 hours and 54 minutes the girls battled with blisters and salt sores against extremely bad weather, constantly flooding hatches and equipment breakage but continued towards Mauritius, even when one of the ‘Angels’ was injured by a rouge wave and unable to row.
The four were the first (and fastest!) all female crew ever to row across the Indian Ocean (appearing in page 118 of the 2011 Guinness World Records).
They also raised over £23,000 for Breast Cancer Care (Despite the recession)
Elin with Sarah Duff, Fiona Waller and Jo Jackson the day after they landed in Mauritius. Big smiles all round!
