Nurse Elin's Other Adventures
The first week of December 2011 could not have been more exciting and memorable for Elin. If a surprise visit from Olympian Mark Foster to announce that she had been nominated to carry the 2012 Lloyds TSB Olympic torch wasn't enough it also coincided with Elin's visit to Buckingham Palace to celebrate a 100 years of British Adventure and Exploration since Scott's landing in Antarctica. Elin was humbled to be chosen to carry the torch and overwhelmed to be surrounded by her adventuring and exploring heroes at Buckingham Palace. A truly magical week!
In October 2010 Elin released her book ‘A’r Fôr Tymhestlog’. Released in Welsh first, ‘On Tempestuous Seas’ accounts the tales of both ocean crossings, but also describes how Elin has tried to combine her passion for adventures with a professional and personal life. Much to Elin's joy it was listed for the 2011 Welsh Book of the Year.
'On Tempestuous Seas' was released eleven months later at the National Geographic Store in London - recording the highest number of books ever sold in one night at the store.

Elin's always looking for something to keep her out of trouble! Shortly after arriving in London Elin began to play rugby, and continued to enjoy playing prop forward for eleven years.
Elin committed her time between her nursing career and her rugby ambitions. She played Premiership rugby at Alton RFC and London Wasps RFC and played at International level for five years, gaining 13 Welsh 'A' caps.
In July 2006, Elin cycled from Paris to London in three and a half days.
Elin has also tried her luck at marathon running, completing Snowdonia, London, Loch Ness and many other half marathons and 10km races. Along with a few triathlons, including a 70.3 distance one which took 6 hours and 58 minutes (not 7 hours note!)
In October 2007, eight months after landing in Antigua Elin tried to run six marathons in six days across the Sahara desert. Unfortunately the Sahara was too much for Elin (not helped by lack of training) and she passed out on day four. But it hasn't stop her appetite for adventure.
