Using Sails Rather than Oars!
After the Indian Ocean, Elin knew that she needed to head back out to sea and completing a ‘hat-trick’ of oceans became her next focus.
Occupied by her PhD, Elin had to put her plans briefly on hold however, but when the opportunity to be part of the Clipper Round the World race came along Elin jumped at the chance.
The creation of Sir Robin’s Knox-Johnston – the first man to sail solo, non-stop around the world, Clipper gives the opportunity for people from all walks of life, all backgrounds and with no experience of sailing to venture around the globe.
Elin will join forces with team Visit Finland under the command of skipper Olly Osbourne. Setting sail from Quingdao in early March 2012 and heading for the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the journey of 5,680 miles will take around 33 days. Less than half the number of days than the other two oceans, despite being more than double the distance - but Elin is in no doubt that it will be equally as challenging, equally as demanding and equally as rewarding!
